INFORMATION OF SPECIAL INTEREST TO BIBLE CAMPS
HOW UNCLE HAROLD OPERATES AT BIBLE CAMPSPreamble - Each Bible Camp operates differently and has certain expectations for their Camp Speakers. The same is true for the Camp Speakers. Typically camps expect that the Camp Speaker will preach for about fifteen to thirty minutes in each chapel. Usually the Camp Speaker does this after the Camp Counselors lead the campers in thirty to forty-five minutes of singing with electric guitars, drums and powerful sound systems. Usually the Camp Speaker will stand behind a small lectern amidst a platform full of counselor's musical equipment to give his message. This is fine if the Camp Speaker is not Uncle Harold. This is because Uncle Harold is totally different. Here is why!a) Uncle Harold's style of Chapel When children come into chapel with Uncle Harold as Camp Speaker, the first thing they will notice is that the entire platform at the front of the chapel is full of Uncle Harold's equipment ... Flannelboard which is eight feet wide a huge puppet theatre and large art board easel plus spotlights and many other pieces of equipment which is very exciting for children. This is because Uncle Harold preaches to children through the Bible Story method by means of large visual aids. Children will believe the Gospel message if they see it in picture form at their level of understanding. Uncle Harold presents to the Campers a complete one hour program at each camp chapel. Uncle Harold tells a number of Bible Stories at each Chapel and each story is interspersed with children's songs, object lessons and small prizes. The Children's Songs that he uses are carefully picked to reinforce the various lessons from each story. What you must understand is that Uncle Harold conducts the entire Chapel Service including all the music single handed. The bottom line is that Uncle Harold will need a full fifty-five to sixty minutes to present the program in every camp chapel period. Where does this leave the counselor's music program? Basically your counselors can take a break from it and forget it until Uncle Harold finishes his time at your camp. They can then get back to it with the next camp speaker who operates in the traditional way. b) How you can prepare for Uncle Harold's Chapels
